"Giving glass a second chance at life with a purpose"
Kate Hetzel has incorporated her beliefs in recycling into an art form with her current line. She paints, etches, batiks, and/or fuses glass to achieve a unique look. Each piece is a one-of-a-kind.
"Thanks for closing the loop and buying recycled."
"I hope through my art, to inspire others to find ways they can reduce their impact on our planet."
Kate's glass art began with her visits to her grandfather's glass factory in Chicago. Her current line of recycled work evolved from a bag of scrap glass ready for the landfill. She looks for complementary colors and shapes and loves digging through for the right pieces. Kate spends her summers living 'off the grid' in a small cabin she built in her grandpa's woods in northern Michigan.
All edges have been either ground smooth, sand blasted, or fire polished so they will not be sharp. Candle holders and night lights have been coated with a clear acrylic so they can be cleaned with a damp sponge.
